i am looking to buy a set of minispares 7.5" 4 pot calipers.

i would just like to know weather it is worth while spending the extra to get the vented discs or just stick with solid ones.

also what extra parts would i need to convert to vented discs?

thanks
andy

If you are going to 7.5" disks it is worthwhile going to vented, but be aware that the vented disc will be a turned down item and only available from places like Minispares and Mini Sport. Also they will require the drive flange for the vented disks and may or may not require the locating ring machining off depending on where you get them from. Kits are available.

Other than that will result in the ultimate 7.5" disc set up and stopping performance probibly superior to the standard 8.4" set up.

the minisport Vented discs are available in 8.4" and 7.9" variety - i have the 7.9" and am glad I paid the extra few quid for them! they worked perfectly for 2 weeks solid driving immediately after setting them up! Drove to IMM in Spain ad back, over mountains and through gorges - didn't miss a beat! :cheese:

right so its worthwhile going for vented ones then, which drive flange do i need to use? metro ones? i dont like the look of them so i will have to modify them!

the discs arent really a problem as i can get the made to the correct size and drilled and grooved at work!

i hope they will be better than my 8.4"!! gonna cost enough.

Depends what you use your car for really, and how fast it is.

If your doing plenty of track days and doing stop after stop from 100mph then get the vented. If you have a 40bhp 998 and you mainly drive around town, save your money and by standard disks.

The vented disks won't stop the car any quicker, they will just be less prone to fade. And in my experiance the standard brakes with decent linings have to be absolutly hammered before they fade.

My hillclimber has non-vented brakes and so does my road mini, i've never had either of them fade; and trust me I drive like a nob almost all of the time.

Save your money. Also the bigger heavier vented disks will only add to the unsprung weight and rotating mass. Potentially making the car handle worse and definately making it accelerate slower.

Not quite true

any disks can be turned down by your local engineering company its such an easy job one of my neighbours done mine!

something else to consider is that by the time the vented disks have been turned down there's actually not much left of the vented web's decreasing the heat dissipation area so imho not worth it

personally i agree with Will he and his brother use there car in anger on the hills and if there's a car that needs pukka brakes its a competition car, if they don't see the benifits on the tracks you will never see them on the road

imho i would get a local machinist to turn down a quality set of grooved disks the grooves keep the pad surface from glazing and they stop gasses getting between pad and disk helping with brake fade obviously make sure rest of braking is tip top and i cant see being disappointed
