Hi,

I have an 85 mini with no servo brakes. But i do have a servo unit with pedal box spare

So my question is this,

Is there any advantage to fitting a servo with respect to brake power etc. I have seen on here alot of people have removed their servos.....

Cheers

The servo only reduces the amount of pedal pressure required for a given brake force.

However the Classic Mini calipers can feel heavy without one, and contrary to popular belief the Rover servo has a pretty good feel to it.... when it's working correctly, which seems to be the major reason for removing it in the first place, leaky seal or pipe in most cases would probably fix it :D

So I for one am for it, it being the Rover pedal box / servo unit combination.

I myself prefer the feel of my (Cooper S) brakes without a servo, so have not fitted the one I have from an old mini. Also the space gained on that side of the engine bay is good.
Have you tried driving both to see what you like?

I took mine off a Cooper 'S' Mk.1 and tried it without, but with the carbon-metallic pads I use I thought the 'feel' was poor (nearly spun it during testing in the wet) so I put it back on. Some of my fellow competitors, however, do run without, so it's personal preference really.
