I was just wondering if anyone on here has the know how to write a TMF app? I think a lot of people would download it, and I think you could easily charge 59p or whatever for it and the money could go back in to maintaining this site.

There are a few websites out there that have a similar app at the moment (I think retrorides.proboards.com have one, for example).

The iPhone and android phones continue to grow in popularity and I definitely think there would be a market for it - unfortunately I have no idea about any of that.

I only thought of it as Im about to put a load of stuff for sale and thought it would be good to have an App to check on any interest etc as Im going to be away from my computer for a few days. Of course, I could just use the web browser but an app would be much simpler on a phone.

Just a thought.

I have the expertise, however it really isn't worth the time.

An application built specifically to access TMF would be nothing more than a web browser that only allows you to view one website, there will be no additional functionality or features.

However, when the new forum software goes up (I'm working on it!) there will be support for a mobile skin for the forum, this will make it easier for all phones to view TMF without having to zoom in and out all the time.

Yep, a bookmark is just as good as an app for most sites.

In addition to it being largely pointless as said above, ever thought what it costs to host an app on iTunes or elsewhere? It's not free you know and given that we would have a maximum of a few hundred sales in each format the main thing it would be funding would be itself. This has been asked many times but really as said there is no need for an app to link to a website, all smart phones have a web browser capable of showing a page in full format that can be blown up. A different skin will make it easier to use on a small screen and without a keyboard but it can only come with the upgrade of the full board system that is on its way.

I guess if someone already had a developer account for Android / iTunes (not me, I'm too cheap to pay the fee!) then it wouldn't be an extra cost for them. However, if there's going to be mobile support in the new version of the forum, that's awesome, and much more worthwhile! That way everyone with a mobile (BB, Nokias, etc) will have an easier time of the site.

I'm happy to wait, it'll be worth it and anyway I spend my day stuck in front of computer screens so I can use the normal site!

The screen on the iPad is big enough to see TMF, just as it is, very nicely indeed! :D

Have you been on the mobile version of the site after the update? I did today and its great. There is no need for an app with the mobile version already being easy to use on a mobile device :)

If you have a iPhone, save it as a bookmark to your home screen and then it sort of is an app then :proud:

The new forum layout works great on my android phone browser, can't see what a seperate app would offer...

If you want an app you can vist the forum through safari and at the bottom of page there is a link to the itunes store for a forum viewing app. Its called ip.board communities. You can just search for that in the app store and it works fine, been using it for the last few days

Even better... if you don't have a smartphone and feel a little left out you can change the forum skin to the 'mobile' skin and see what it would look like :P

(it looks good on my google nexus one though!) :)

I have finally used the new version of TMF on my phone.

I have to say, I know this is not an app and a mobile version of the site, but this is exactly what I was after. It is brilliant. Well done to all involved!

It would be great if you could upload photos from your phone!
Or is that something that is impossible to do?
