Model: Rover Mini City
Year: 1991

Putting hub back together, pushed a little harder than usual on the end of the drive shaft (i didnt hit it though), had a lot of oil come wizzing out of the inner CV gator after. I take it this is very bad :S What needs to be replaced to fix this?????

Great end to a long day *sigh*

If ive got this right you're only taking about contents of the inner boot that covers the driveshaft join to the pot joint? - if so nothing to worry about - should be full of grease not oil but old grease does tend to seperate a bit so fluid unsurprising - just take the boot off clean it all out regrease and job done...

erm, ish. I didnt take the drive shaft out, just moved it while rebuilding the hub, oil poured out from the inner gator, when I put the engine in there was next to no oil coming out of the pot, was very geasy. Should there be about 1/2 a pint of oil in there?

I believe there is a metal disk like a freeze plug inside the pot joint that seals the oil from the engine from getting into the pot joint. I think that if you are too agressive pushing the pot joint onto the drive splines from the differential this plug gan be dislodged. I don't know for sure but I think I remember seeing this disk inside the pot joint. I am not sure if it can be reset or if you just need a new pot joint.

After returning from an auto test recently I took car off the trailer to find a pool of oil on it,
Initially I thought oil leak but it turned out to be a split inner cv gaiter ,the grease had leaked out
but it looked like old oil , I don't think the engine/gearbox oil can get into the pot.
Hope this helps.
