minispares flywheel puller is best as i used a different puller which did not work and ended up braking and destroying the thread!!!!

get a long socket wrench long enough so that as the bolt spins the wrench is going to hit the floor (asuming engine is out of car) therefor wont turn anymore, thats how i did it anyway

stick a screw driver thru where the start motor would be (hence remove it) to lock flywheel

Just be careful you don't knock the flywheel off !!!

you can buy a proper flywheel locking tool for this job, rather than a screwdriver, it bolts into the starter location and then locks onto the flywheel teeth!

But not everyone has a garage full of 'special tools'.

Is the flywheel still on? - if so then lock the teeth up and then undo the cam gear nut...

if the flywheel is off then a flat bar across the slot in the crank tail and jammed up/held should do the trick

I must admit even I use a screwdriver (have a knackered old one just for the job) , just too lazy to weld a bit of steel onto a bar.. but that's all the locking tools are...

sorry must be my rushed typing i have the cam gear nut off but i cant get the woodruff key off the crank gear to slide the gearset and chain off...

i can get the cam gear and chain to slide up and down but the chain is obviously holing it on its the little woodruff key thats holding on tight...

any ideas?

if the nuts are off then the gears pull off.. i use a pair of tyre levers...

you'll have to pull them off 'squarely' as the chain will lock up and you'll have to pull on the other one off a little.

if you have no tyre levers then a 3-legged puller would do the same job (watch the thread in the crank though!)

(technically the woodruff is there to position the gears - it doesnt drive them - the nuts holding it all together does that)

Dave
