Hi,
My mini often crunches in 2nd gear, especially in the high RPM ranges. My friends' older mini does the same, which tells me its a mini thing, just wanted to double check it was and whether or not it could be resolved somehow.
All input appreciated.

Thanks

I believe its the baulk rings in the gearbox, try doubling the clutch when changing down and it will work a little better.

Yes it can be fixed, but does mean the engine needs to come out of the car for the gearbox to be reconditioned...

The baulkrings are wear component of the gearbox, slowing down and speeding up the gears to enable the normally smooth crunch free gear change. The crunch is the dog teeth of the gear and synchro hub coming into contact, and if the problem is not resolved, will eventually damage both of these parts beyond reuse...
