Hey! I'm just wondering how many miles to the gallon do you get in a 998cc?

Thanks

All depends on how you drive it. Thrash it about and you'll get bad economy. Drive it sensibly and you'll do well.

Numbers wise, im not 100% sure

I got 40 ish on the way back from the rive run. sat at 65 on the motorway. Round town is not so good, twin carbs do nothing for fuel economy.

The official government figures of the time (urban, 56mph, 75mph) were:

998 with 3.44 final drive: 38.8, 48.5, 33.0

998 with 2.95 final drive: 45.9, 60.5, 44.1

998 with 3.105 final drive: 46.1, 60.5, 40.7

BMC's claim for early (3.44) 998s was 50mpg at 50mph - which is borne out by the above figures. Autocar, in 1976, gave an overall figure of 34.2 (this included their top speed, acceleration and road testing).

Well I did about 190-200 miles on the L2B weekend on one 7.5 gallon tank. Then ran out of petrol on the 2 mile return journey from work yesterday. ;)

Around town, short journeys, lots of people in the car etc about 40 mpg.

Cross country A roads, with a passenger or two, looking at 50 , just over MPG.

Steady 55mph on the motorway, 75MPG and more.

Megajolt on a well setup engine, driven carefully is amazingly fuel efficient.

Am I reading it right that you live 2 miles from work and you drive?

But to answer the question in... question.

My 998 was much more economic than my current 1275 and it didn't make me go to speed awareness classes :P
