So when i eventually get round to installing new ice i have two option, sorta. I have heard that if u are trying to get a agood sound stage to not run speakers in the back.
Does this really lower quality and if so does it only aply to co axle speakers?
I plan to fit 4" under the dash, 5.5" in speaker pockets and have tweets in the top rail but i might add 6.5" components in the parcel shelf if it creates a suround sound effect.
I thought because they would only be woofers they might be ok because it is harder to pick up where lower sounds come from.
Plus if angle the speakers toward the middle of the car with some sort of small pod the sound will be going straight into your ear.
This may be a matter of opinion but any help would be nice.

Applies to all speakers except subs.

dont add comps in the parcel shelf... i wouldnt put any speakers in the parcel shelf, but if you are going too then co-axials are fine

Music was recorded in stereo... left and right. so there is no surround sound

what you have mentioned is a 3 way setup (5.5 in pocket, 4 in under dash, tweet on dash). this is fine, but on the budget i presume you are on just go for the best 2 way components you can afford. If you are not getting a sub it might be better to try and get a 6.5in at the front rather than a 5.5 as (i think) it will have a bit more umph.

ok thanks. I am not really restricted by budget, e three ways cost around £150. the only reason i was gonna use 5" was because 6.5" dont fit in pocket speakers. i done think there is any other space up fornt execpt the doors and dash/ under dash

Im not sure on the world of 3 ways... But i would still try to follow the rule of KISS

Keep It Simple Stupid.

http://www.optimise-...spaceshops.com/ - they make speaker pods that can be mounted on the dash rail, wheel arch and doors in a variety of sizes.

I wouldn't use a 3-way component set up especially with 4" & 5.25" speakers as they will both be covering basically the same frequencies as each other. If you want a good set up go for 6.5" components in door pods & tweeters on top of the dash in the corner. You will get a better mid-bass response from 6.5" than a 5.25" and they can still fit on the door if you angle them. I have 6.5's in custom pods in my doors (check my project thread for pics)

Rear parcel speakers are good for a bit of 'fill' but wont aid the front sound stage at all. Check out the ICE Projects threads for ideas, especially Ruckus & GP BILLY's pages on how to do a proper SQ install.

so ur saying that i should not run 5.5s with 4s because they sound about the same but what about 6.5 with 4 wont these sound different. I just like the idea of three ways because they give more of a range. 6.5, 4 and tweetes

they dont give more range as such...

the audible frequency range is 20hz to 20,000hz - a set of 2 way comps may cover say 60-20,000hz - a 3 ways set up will cover about the same.

Unless you go all out & sound deaden the car properly (see Ruckes's thread) your not going to get the benefit from running a 3-way system. A better 3-way system would be 8", 5.5" & tweeter that way you'd be covering more mid bass & mid frequency sound. But to put an 8" driver in a door or foot well is going to be near on impossible.
Seriously, spend the money on some top quality 6.5" & Tweeter components and amp them properly & you'll have better value for money & it will sound better. Also you are right about speaker placement but the higher the frequency the speaker produces the more directional they need to be. In saying that I have my tweeters in the corner of the top dash rail, angled to a point in space about 6 inches below the rear view mirror & they sound really good where as Ruckes' tweeters are on top of the dash facing back towards the listener. It all depends on the type, quality & crossover point of the tweeter & how you like to listen to the type of music you play.

I did this due the amazing on axis response on the tweeters I’m using… it doesn’t really work!
There are so detailed your ear gets pulled straight to them and the imagining is off. I have a plan to fix this but it’s a pain.

Basically Do not fix your tweeter in position until you have played around with the positioning and found the sweet spot.
If you need some setup tracks just ask

I used a lump of Blue-Tack behind mine & played around with the angles before deciding where they sounded best.
