Now i've been under the impression, the brake & clutch fluid is put into the one reservoir (the one with 2 wires you need to disconnect before opening), but i've just discovered theres a clutch reservoir hidden at the back, does this need to be topped up also?? or are is the fluid distributed through that one reservoir?

In a late Mini don't you get some bottle at the back.. washer bottle? or something - i don't think its brake fluid..
EDIT: Minisport7 - i think the confusion arose with 'Cooper S' - it would be a 'Cooper Sport' but not an 'S' (which is a very early mini - or a type of BMW Mini!)

It's the one that you mention, Minisport7 - Sits on the bulkhead, in a little round "tin can" thing! Very high-tech!

what made you think that? BMW MINI started production in 2001, i clearly stated my mini is 2000 :S
Hi Minisport 7,
You should have a brake fluid reservoir sitting on the brake master cylinder sticking out of the servo above the clutch housing. This should have the two wires which is for your low level brake fluid warning light. Then you have the clutch reservoir which is fitted on the bulkhead just to the right of the brake servo when looking at the engine bay from the front of the car.
Both need topping up!
Here's a pic of mine though it's a 1989.
