Hello All,

Starting to run out of ideas of stuff to do to the mini. After having a long weekend of fitting electric windows, central locking, push button engine start button. Was having a good old think and I would like to work out how to do an internal boot release by a button on the dash.

So I know I will need a door popper, which is quite easily avaliable on ebay. But I will need to change the boot lock to a rod/cable driven lock ( i want to keep the original boot handle on there to keep the standard look on the mini).

Anyone got a suggestion of type of lock I could use or is it a case of just going to the scrappy and seeing what looks right? I am also going to put a boot strut on it. So if it pops open, it doesnt just slam open.

Anyone done anything similar?

Cheers,

Steve

WOW  i said to my dad this morning just as banter, i was going to smooth of my boot and do an internal release boot, we were just spitballing ideas. but some way a bonnet internal release kit rigged to the boot could possibly work (some how) but would need more planning but i will be watching this definatley. As this will come in very helpful also if the boot does come open from inside car it will need to just pop as in the way the bonnet does then a catch which you could slide your hand down the gap between the boot for it to drop down, instead of slamming down on the hinges which wouldnt help it at all. Good luck :withstupid:

ok after much searching the forum and the internet. I think the best option will be to go down the breakers and pick up a boot catch from there. Probably one from a ford with the built in solenoid. So I can simply wire it up to a switch on the dash. What ill also do is hook up a cable and run in under the back seat. So if the power fails, I have a way to open it.

Also Ill get a couple of gas struts from a boot/bonnet. So hopefully, when I press the button. The boot will smoothly open. I am planning on fitting an alarm at the same time.

definately get struts mate, befor i sorted this problem out, if i was parked on a slight incline (rear going down hill) the boot would open and rip the screws out of the fibreglass and it ended up hitting the floor hense the chips at the top of my boot
the ford locks would work fine but its finding a place to fix them due to them been abit big, i used the mechanism out of a steering wheel lock, works great and easy to fix/bodge if it goes wrong. you can use rods and the solenoid seperate if you fancy making something your self.
