Do you need to keep the ~10mm metal spacer between carburettor and inlet manifold?? On mine the air filter is really awkward to seat properly. Without this spacer it would be a lot easier.
Thanks in advance

I think, IF it is a black spacer it is plastic and acts as insulation between the carb and the manifold.
Not too sure about a metal spacer and what it functions as.
have you got a pic?

to me it looks like there is 2 in there so i guess if there is 2 you could take 1 out.
its defo there for a reason though.

the longer the mouth into the manifold the better the air flow :smartass:

i think it's more to do with 'better fuel atomisation' as years ago it was good practice to use a long swan neck manifold with a '45webber than a short one...
trouble was we had to weld in battery box's on the bulkheads to take the air filters :cheese:
is that a after market inlet mani you have there ?

agreed that a longer neck is better. But i am sure it is there as insulation from the inlet manifold

If it's impracticle or won't fit then you'll have to remove it. Order a fibre spacer from Burlen, these are about 6mm which looks to be a lot thinner than the alloy one you have now. You should really have something to isolate the carb from the manifold, and alloy isn't ideal. I think the thick alloy one is there basically because BL needed to move the carb back a bit when the air filter housing was redesigned. The much larger filter housing is a lot closer to the bonnet.
