I have an automatic 1973 Austin mini 1000, 998cc
The other day I went to reverse onto my forecourt to find it wouldn't go into reverse! luckily there was no traffic as it was quite late and eventually it did go into gear.
The when I was leaving college around a week ago the gears seemed to be stuck at the traffic lights (I had had to stop quite quickly as someone started pulling out without looking!)
The today, again on my way home from college, someone pulled out right in front of me and then stopped dead, I braked hard (it turned out they wanted to turn left again but didnt indicate. They were just being stupid and pulled out straight after their friend without paying attention, really typicl of people around the area i was travelling through!) As i tried to pull away the engine got really loud and then eventually it slipped into gear and pulled away.
Is this a serious problem I could have or just one of those things that happen? I have checked the oil and its fine, but due an mot next month and I don't want to fail on something trivial etc!
Anyone else had a similar problem or know what it could be etc?
Thanks for any help :(

When it "slips" in to gear does it do it with a bang ?

Have you checked the oil level correctly...

if my automatic wont go into gear (its very rare for that to happen) its because the oil level has dropped.

I have checked the oil level using the dip stick. Thats all ive ever been told. It does sort of bang into gear but more like a clunk?
Its only after harsh braking though so I thought that might have something to do with it?
