Hi there, Im toying with the idea of having my mini done matt black, but does the paint and hardener made for cars stop it rusting? Or will it be like any old matt black and let water through and start rusting my mini away?

it will still rust mate only way to stop it is cut it out :) to do it properly, if you paint over the rust it will still come through the paint after a while. you can buy kurust, rust treatments but im not totally convinced by them that they work. best way is to cut it out.

Sorry I dont think I was clear, there is no rust on my car but Im worried the matt black wont be waterproof and let water onto the metal underneath causing rust.

it should be fine to be honest pal but for the best results is the base the car with black paint and then get a matt laquor thats how it should be done, not just a tin of sattin black paint.

This is matt lacquer which has to be mixed with a 2k hardner.
Matt Lacquer

that is the way i would go to be honest.

Thanks Jonesy, yeah it's proper car paint that I'm planning on using, just wasn't wanting to do it then find out that it's only for show cars. I've been looking at kits on eBay that include the primer and paint but not sure what one to use or if it would be weatherproof.

Gun and compressor mate, I done a years panel beating when I left school and got a mate who's doing spray painting at college but he's not had any experience with matt paint yet, I'm on my iPhone at the moment but will post a link in an hour or so when I'm home.
Thanks mate that's appreciated >_<

sweet thats even better then mate. matt lacquare is exactly the same as normal lacquore just you cant flat and polish it after and if you get any crap in it you will have to flat it back and re-lacquare it. if you use the matt lacquare then you'll get extra protection aswell and look alt more professional.

did you stay with in the body trade ? i just finished my level 2 pannel beating and spraying course at college and am now a sprayer for fords.

Nah never stuck at it, joined the army but now leaving that with a view to doing private security in Iraq.

Heres one of the kits that caught my eye, but it doesnt mention laquer, this is why I was wondering about it being weather proof http://cgi.ebay.co.u...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT
