Hello people,

I am having a little problem with my windscreen wipers at the moment. I know what has caused the problem (i think) but I dont know how to fix it. :D

Basically, I did a few little bits of DIY on my mini a while ago - and one of these changes included buying a new wiper motor switch and re-wiring it in. The problem is, when I cut the wiper motor switch out I didnt check which order the coloured cables were plugged in. Now that I have put the new wiper motor switch in, no matter what order i put those cables my wipers dont seem to work properly. Generally what I am getting is my wipers on regardless of what setting I have them on.

I am fairly confident that it is just a case of getting these cables in the correct order, but I cant seem to work it out.

Does anyone know the correct order for these cables?? I have attached a pic below to explain what I mean...

These are the cables...

and this is a pic of what I thought it should look like (though this order does not seem to work for me)...

Any help would be much appreciated as it is getting quite annoying driving everywhere with my wipers going, lol.

Thanks,
Miniature. :D

That’s odd, as checking both of mine they are wired up the same as the last pick. Although it could also be one of the small contacts in the wiper switch stork (might have a spare one to try) and not the park switch.

When you say you fitted a new switch, is it a proper wiper switch or just another switch you found? The self park system is split, half of it is in the park switch and the other half in the wiper stalk. If you used a switch that doesn't have a self park position and got the self park cable in the wrong position on the switch you did use then the wipers might indeed just run forever.

Yep when my park switch broke the wipers just kept running, I would suspect the park switch!

I bought these two items and fitted them myself, do you think I have got the wrong thing then?

Well that's not what I meant, I thought you had replaced the dash switch with an alternative, but given the fault you have now there must be something wrong with what you've done. Continuity check all the wires from the stalk switch to the wiper connector with both ends disconnected, just to make sure you haven't created a short where you made the splice.
