Right, I am getting a custom fuel tank made at work (not really home made as the title says but hey ho). I am a little concerned about the legalities of fitting such a tank.

What have others done in the past with fuel tanks?

And if I were to ever try and enter a hillclimb or sprint race, would it need to be FIA approved as it aint a standard unit?? :w00t:

Well for racing use in any FIA event then it probably would have to be FIA approved yes, some events require original parts only though. Non FIA events would be a different matter, you might find more information from the RAC bluebook.

As for road use, it might be an idea to get an engineer to sign off on the welding for your insurance company but as long as the tank complies with the rules for fuel storage then it's fine AFAIK.

I'll look into the FIA/RAC side of things.

But as far as sign off for the tank, the guy doing the welding is a CAA certified welder, so that should be OK.

Thanx again Dan!
