Hi everyone,

I'm after a new down pipe (from the manifold to the cat) for my '97 MPI. The flexible joing has cracked after hitting one too many speed bumps.

Mini spares have two available,

Standard - GEX12043

and a different one (which is part of the stage 1 kit) - C-AEG371

Does anyone know if the stage 1 kit one (C-AEG371) is in stainless steel or not? Or are you just paying the extra because it is described as having a better flow than the standard one?

I fancy fitting a stainless one as I also have a stainless RC40 from the cat back. Dont expect any performance gains but it should last longer.

Thanks.

To be perfectly honest I would stick with the orginal MPI manifold and downpipe

The mpi has a LCB fitted as standard and has the correct place for the Lambda sensor to be placed.

The other alternative is the maniflow LCB manifold but this only reads the lambda from the outer 2 cylenders. And on past experience this can play havoc with the emissions.

The MPi has a cast iron manifold as standard and then a twin downpipe that merges into one before the knuckle joint.

Althought the Maniflow LCB will give better performance it also sits lower to the ground and many has said that there exhausts hang lower resulting in it hitting speed bumps etc.
