Hello all,

I am planning on changing my fan belt tonight after work - but I just wanted to double check I have bought the correct replacement belt. I have a 1994 manual Mini Mayfair (1275cc) and I have bought a 825mm V fan belt. I also bought a 836mm V belt incase the first was wrong. I have looked online but am still unsure I have bought the right thing, and the guy in the shop did not fill me with much more confidence either as him and his colleague dissagreed about which one I needed (so I bought both just incase).

Can anyone else with the same car confirm what fan belt they have? Or if anyone else knows which I should be using then that would be very helpful.

Thanks very much.
Christina

Incase anyone else is interested and reads this - it turned out that it was a 825mm fan belt. Once I got it off I could just about read the part number on it, and luckily it was the same 825mm fan belt that I had bought. phew :-

I am well proud of myself - managed to change it all by myself with no help and absolutely no mechanical knowledge! Have never been happier to have my mini.

Yes - I always used 825 belts - take the 836 back and swap it for another 825 so you have a spare.

I assume its a side mounted radiator? It could be that the bolts used to hold the bracket on (between the top of the cowl and the thermostat housing) is too long, and the fan blades are catching it. Easy mistake to make.

i changed my fan belt just by feeding it over the fan, i couldnt be bothered to drain all the water and remove the rad.

Yep, no need to remove the radiator and cowling, can be fed over the fan.

Good point, I assumed thre was a reason why you didnt do this. There should be a little notch on the upper corner of the cowling toward the front of the car. this is the space to feed the fan.

Some people install the actual fan the wrong way round, making the blades too close the the radiator core. I had this problem when i bought my cooper and had to completely remove the rad to replace the belt at the roadside!
