Hi there,

Has anyone ever fitted the yellow dot racing suspension cones from Minispares combined with their HiLo's. Even though I used the compression tool and I've taken of a bit of the adjustment bolt (it touched the cone when set in the lowest setting), it was a b.... to fit. I barely got it in. I know the cone has to settle a bit and it will lower some more, but I think it sits quite high. There is a lot of space between the tire and the wheel arch.

(I don't know if I've uploaded the picture to the topic correctly)

Can anyone take away my doubt and tell me it will sink another 2 inches?? It must be that I've fitted all parts correctly.

I modified my hi-los to lower the car. It won't settle much more than it has

Did you have the same rubber cones? Same problem?

Have you got a photo where the cars weight is on the wheels?

MiniSpares recommend shortening both the centre bolt and hilo body if using with uprated cones.
Have a search on their website, I think it is mentioned on the red spot cone listing.

I just received an e-mail from MS that I've got to remove the locking nut and machine down the Hilo for better results... Why won't they write that down in one of their manuals which they send with almost every part the sell? Those manuals are quite good normally.

I hope I'm able to get out the Hilo that I've already squeezed in... :)((

I can't show a picture with the two front wheels on the floor because I didn't want to fit the other side before I knew what to do about this all...

sorry to bump an old thread but it is relevant.. does any one know just how much needs to be machined off the ripspeed minispares hilos when using red dot cones? It says "a few mm" on the minispares web site here, and I've read on the internet that 8mm or 10mm needs to come off?

I would like to machine once and not need to pull this all apart again when the car is on the road.

I am also aware I need to cut the adjusting bolt down by 1/2" or so.

Is this all true for the rear end as well?

Cheers

Tim

I run the yellows but the same really as red in size in my miglia and I've had to cut off 35mm on the front and 25 off the rear but we run very low, plus ive drilled out the threads on the rubber doughnut so the bolt can go through the middle so can use the hex bar to adjust quickly and easy for corner weighting

thanks..

if I cut 35mm off of the hilo there would be no thread left in it. the thread in the hi-lo is only 30mm long... i'm confused now!

or do you now use the thread in the cone only? how do you lock it if that is the case...

The front suspension has a raio of 3:1 I think, so measure how much further you want to lower the car

(once the weight is on it and you've bounced it a bit to settle it in)

and divide that number by 3.

So if you need to lower by 30mm, then you need to shorten the overall length

of the Hi-Lo by 10mm

I checked to day and it was 25 mm off the front and got around 3 threads left and 20 mm off the rear
But I'm running so low it's too low for any road car as I've got a lot of mods to accommodate the ride height so 15mm be plenty for yours.

got a reply from MS saying 5mm will start there!

Thanks for replies.

With the rear, it would be better to remove it off the rod going between the trailing arm and hilo rather than the hilo itself yeh?

on the rear the ratio is 5:1 so a 5mm reduction in length will give you a 25mm reduction in the ride height
