They're standard factory splices. You'll come across a few, especially in the earth cables.

Yeh,piece of mind indeed, & if that's factory fitment it's no wonder Mini's had such a bad reputation for electrics, either rightly or wrongly!

Some argue a well made crimp is better than solder as it isn't as prone to failure due to vibration and dry joints etc. Although if I remember rightly from the looms I've pulled apart and reworked, some of the factory joints use both crimps and solder.

Right, update! I've removed all the wires that I don't require ie heated rear screen switch , fog lamps , interior light etc
All the bad joins are soldered and heat shrunk . The fuse box is almost done though I need to rewire all the brown wires from the starter to the fuse box. Hopefully finished tommorrow !!

Almost finished! Just have to run the new wiring to the relays for the headlamps/side and indicators and I can wrap the wiring for neatness

Right im happy with the wiring and done as much as i can without the engine in . Now onto the engine

I've the the light!!! Big step as I put some power to the fuse box to see if it all worked. Side, brake and indicators all ok!!! So far I'm chuffed !
