No Engine Number

hi all,i have just bought a reconditioned spi engine all painted and ready to go in but i have just noticed it doesn't have an engine number! it just has 3 letters and some numbers on it.i dont know the history of the engine and now im wondering if it stolen or something,also what do i put on the v5 for the engine number? any info would be great.thanks in advance

Depends what the three letters and numbers are...

Most engine re-manufacturers will remove the original engine number as it no longer relates to the specification of the engine.. also if the block has been surfaced or skimmed, then the engine number usually disappears anyway.
