So, I'm interested in anyone who has experienced sypmtoms related to a faulty (not actually failed) crank sensor.

What symptoms did you suffer and what's your story?

Come on, don't be shy......need some feedback here.

I had this problem with my MPI and it sometimes refused to start (sparking was very inconsistent)

I replaced and suspected loads of things before finally looking at the crank sensor. If you've got a reader which can read the RPM it's returning then it's worth doing that first. I learnt the hard (expensive) way.

Mine went bad, but took over a year to figure it out, $3,400. and 8 months at a "specialist" shop, I posted videos and described my problems on the forums and it was solved, Thanks again !.

Dude, you sound crazier than me! But hey, that's what I know of Mini maniacs :) So, it was the crank sensor after all of that?

Yup, £29.95 from Minispares and it's been running good, top end speed is down a bit,

My crank sensor was faulty, the car would start and be fine for about 10 mins till it warmed up and the contacts of the sensor would get hot and distort, this made it cough splutter misfire, go out of time and generally be completely undriveable!

I have considered the crank sensor obviously, but I can't say that my symtoms are quite as bad as yours were. Yes, start up good and after 10 minutes coughing at idle and occasional hestitation when throttling down and then kicking her.

Top speed is fab, drives very well overall and is responsive. Just the misfire which creates havoc down at the friendly MOT centre!

Yeah mine went quite badly wrong, it was playing up like yours was for a couple of weeks to a month, then one day just started that and then cut out on me and needed to wait for it to cool down, then it kept doing it all the way home, about 4 times in a 20 mins journey!

Mine has intermittent no spark, sometimes first time runs and drives like a dream, stop try and start no chance.

To me it sounds you guys never check and clean that sensor. Mine was dirty and oily.

It is the same with CTS which collects dirt and calcium layers from the water and then signals not correct values to the ECU.
