Hello,

I just continued the refurb of my 12g295 head to put on my 1098.
I had exhaust valves for a 12g202 head, with single grooves. It took me some searching to source inlet valves, now these have triple groove.
I test fitted them to the head, after putting on new guides and lapping in.
Only now I have noted the valve stems are not equally long, and that I possibly have a problem with the collets.
See picture.Visit My Website

You can see one spring is a lot more compressed than the other.
Does anyone know if I should get other exhaust valves for a 295 head ? Did I get the wrong inlet valves ( for a 1275 perhaps ? ) Did I combine the wrong collets wit hthe wrong spring cap ?

EDIT : okay, I already found out the valves are 94 mm long, where the inlet valves for my 202 head and the exhaust valves are only 86, could it be I was sold large bore valves instead of small bore ?
AM I right in assuming the long valves are for 1275 cc engines ?

The valves do need to be the correct and equal length.
Triple-groove valves not only use different colletts, they use different top caps as well. The valves, colletts and caps must all match.

Sounds like you actually have exhaust valves for a 1275 940 head there - and you are trying to use them as inlet valves in the 295 head? No harm in that - but as Cooperman says - you need the correct caps and collets - and 1275 springs........

Thanks guys,
this confirms my suspicions. The valves were actually sold to me as being inlet valves for a 295 head.
I have contacted the seller ( won't mention their name - yet ) asking for replacement. Let's see what happens.

It seems I have the right collets for my exhaust valves, and that's about it. I will see what the reply is, and then start from there to complete the kit.

EDIT : problem solved. Apparently an honest mistake by the seller. They just shipped me the wrong valves.
