Hi guys :)

So i have seen people changing their ash trays for clocks, fuel meters etc. Which is really cool. But i wasnt really interested in those. so, as a non smoker, and a gadgeteer - i decided to replace my ash tray with a dock for my iPhone. :D

So i got an adapter for my iphones connector, that gives line out for the HU's RCA input and a micro USB for charging. set me back £5.99 :teehee: .

I used some wallpaper to trim it that was left over from papering my room, leather effect - snazzy! I also used some red thread to style it up.

What d'you guys think?
(feel free too criticise, i want some feedback)

EDIT: oh and by drilling a hole through the ash tray outer bit i have been able to route all wires out of sight!

great idea how did you get the stitching effect ? or did you actually sew the thread through the wallpaper?

Looks good, but I'd put something else on it to support the device when it's plugged in. It could strain the socket on the phone if it's only supported by the ipod cable adapter, particularly if you went over quite a big bump or down a pothole. A couple of small arms around the sides could probably do the job ok, just to hold it in place better.

It does look good though, I've been thinking about getting a windscreen sucker thing for my phone, my brother uses one but I think it might take up a bit too much space in the windscreen of a Mini. You're idea is a lot better :D I'm tempted to have a go myself, what's it actually made out of?

thanks. the phone leans on the back of the dock, but it may need more support as you say - time will tell.

My dad has a windscreen sucker, its good, but the constant clipping in and out will scratch the sides of the phone. And i also use a case, which wouldnt fit. AND, you would have to plug wires in too. Thats why i made this, one connection, wires always neat.

I made it out of 3mm MDF, sprayed it black, so the nooks and crannys that i couldnt (be bothered) to cover would look ok. it is really stiff, i thought i would have to reinforce it much more than i have.

This is really cool, clever little idea!!

Thankyou.
