Hi all i have a fast road 998 and am thinking of getting straight cut gears
has anyone put these gear on there 998
or is it pointless on a 998

i doubt you have the power in your 998 to warrant a straight cut box, but if you only want the noiseof a straight cut box then get some straight cut drop gears instead.

Useless if you have less than 90 bhp IMHO and very noisey.

The only reason for fitting SC Close-Ratio gears to a 998 is when you have a race cam, such as a 286 or one with greater overlap than that. The SC box enables the engine to be kept within the very narrow power band without 'falling off the cam'. That is to say, as the peak power will be from, say, 5300 rpm to 6800 rpm the SCCR box will enable the engine to stay between these revs at all times. But then you would also need a lower final drive in order to pull away as with the SC gear set, 1st gear is much higher.
As already said, unless it's a serious race or rally car there is nothing to be gained from SC gears in a 998, and the disadvantage is the added noise on a long journey which can become very wearing. As for SC drops - don't go there or you'll need ear plugs for journeys of over about 5 miles if permanent ear damage is to be avoided.
