Hi all, I have an MPi Sportspack with a standard head and camshaft but I'm interested in giving a bit more get up and go. Would anyone recommend getting a beefier cam and if so which one? Or will it send my ECU round the twist? Cheers Sam.

There are only a handfull of cams available for the MPi since it has the cam sensor instead of the fuel pump lobe.

two cams come to mond but there may be others doone by the usual big name tuning companies.

Kent cams MD274 or MD274SP and the Swiftune SW5

The SW5 is a VERY good comprimise, with the Kent MD274 a little wilder. The MD274SP is the absolute max you should go for, and needs presice engine set up to get it to work correctly.

I was actually looking at an MD274 Cam. What needs to be altered/tuned to get the best from this and roughley how much would it cost allin for cam, tuning, labour etc?

No idea on cost, but the Kent MD274 cam will be fine so long as it is timed in perfectly when installed, don't just fit the standard timing gears without checking. By all means use the standard timing gears, as they are more than up to the job against popular belief, but do use offset woodruf keys to get the timing spot on. The only other thing to set is the vave clearance, and make sure they are all set to specification. Kent Cams website has all this information available. There should be no real need to do anything else.

I had the SW5i cam in my MPi and I could not fault it. Great rev range, and awsum pull. I purchased the kit with the Duplex timing chain.

Combined it with a set of 1.5.1 rockers on a standard MPi head and it was awsum. I then upgraded to the stage 3 head and it was even better.

Looking on the website there doesn't seem to be an SW5i only SW5-07 cam/duplex kit, but it says that is MPI specific

I have the SW5-07 in my SPi now. What a great product! Cant say enough about it. I went with the lightened duplex adjustable timing set, dual springs and followers. I really took my time to get the timing as near perfect as I could. I used a dial gauge and a timing wheel to set it to 107 degrees. That is what is recommended from Swiftune.

Got rid of that terrible lack of life after 5k for me. Maybe it was even lower then that. Revs pretty clean up to...not really sure. Havent hit a limit yet:-)

I have the Cooper S Kit form Minisport and I'm getting 85bhp. The one thing that is holding it back is the gearing. Its geared for motorways so not great on acceleration. You have to be pulling over 2k rpm to feel the power...
