fitting front hi-lo's

i thought that it would be best to fit these as the front end is rather low (due to worn knuckle joints i suspect) & as it's an auto with the lumpy sump hanging down i'd like to raise the front end substantially...
my experiences of mini front suspension in the past is not good :saywhat:
what i want to know is what happens if i compress the front cones & the thread pulls out of the cone with a BANG ! ?
i have only a couple of hours this weekend to spare so need to know what to do if this happens , as im sure it's happened to you guys before
who agrees with me on the mini suspension thing , where the front end should be slightly higher than the rear ? i think they look much better like this....

and i think you will have to change the rubber bits if the threads go :smartass:

While you have it all apart replace the cones....it will sit and handle a whole lot better !!!

This is some what missleading.If its sitting low then it needs new rubber cones! Just raising it on Hi - Lo's is just hiding the problem.
While you have it all apart replace the cones....it will sit and handle a whole lot better !!!
For a start the auto cars sit lower at the front anyway because the engine and box are somewhat heavier.
Also the nylon cups that the knuckle sits in is probibly severely worn, though replacing the springs on the front may be a good idea on an auto because of the extra weight. The springs soften up with age, but i see this as a good thing as the Mini suspention is not exactly forgiving on a bumpy country road. Fitting high lows will rectify the ride hight problem but if you do not replace the nylon cups this is the problem you are hiding. Also depending on the type of adjustable units you have, they actualy increase the spring stiffness as the shoulder the rubber acts upon is larger.

they also come with new nylon nuckle joints too....
the reason for me fitting them is so i can ajust them as needed , i might have plans for modding her in the future & as im 18 & a half stone in weight it's nice to run her high at the front to clear potholes & the like...

just finnished fitting these & what a hard job it was too !
the main problem was that the threads in the rubber cones were well stripped , at
one point i had to go up to MINI-SPORT to get a unf adapter for my compressor tool as i thought it had the old style cones in...
in the end i used a hammer to force the metric tool into the cones whilst turning it in
anyway in the end i got my 2 hi-lo units installed with ne knuckle joints & at last she's sitting nice.
just a few days to allow for settle before i set up the hieght equally
i only need to replace a outer c.v boot & both subframe front mounts now !
