Posted a couple of problems on here in the past week because i thought it was definitly my air fuel mixture that was giving me the problems but after adjusting this (i am pretty sure i am doing it all right) I am experiencing serious power loss before and after. I am tryingto get hold of a colortune but my local halfords only has the 10 and 12mm threads and no garage i have visited seems to even know what the tool is other than one old man that said its a very very very old tool that he hasnt ever had!! GREAT!

Everyone is telling me to check the ignition systems but how do i do this thoroughly, looked through pages of this forum and can't find a guide for dummies (me) of everything to check and how to check it.

My spark plugs were black as night a couple of days ago so cleaned them up but could they be permanently damaged from overfuelling (which i think is why they are all sooty) Is it worth me replacing these in case.

What am i looking for in terms of problems around the distributor? the car was running okay 2 weeks ago but now i have no idea.

I run the car for 15-20 mins to get it warmed thoroughly and then if i slam the accelerator down fairly hard it revs to around 3000 then struggles chokes and sputters for a second or two then starts climbing again... what is this.

Its the same in all gears and i am now afraid to even drive it round the block as i live on a hill and it struggles enough on flat. I really and just starting out in mechanics world so have very limited knowledge. Live in the southend-on-sea area Essex if anyone is nearby who thinks they could lend a hand for a half hour!! would appreciate very much as i am racking up garage bills and havent been paid yet!!

When people say check they mean things like the points and gaps. All in the Haynes, not a whole lot to check past that as the parts are all lifed items (use till they bork, replace, do not service) so you replace them when you need to.

If you've not replace the points, condenser, cap and rotor arm in a while then I'd suggest doing so / giving the car a good service in general. It might just be a part is braking down.

On plug, black means rich, may I ask how are you checking the mix currently? As you don't have a colortune you can use the old lift pin system to do it.

But as you said it goes at a RPM, then check the vac advance pipe and mech on the dizzy (remove cap off dizzy, suck other end of vac advance and see if everything moves like it should).

And get colortune's off ebay cheap enough. They ain't old, they still happily make them. Handy too.

Hi there.

Looks like You've had to offers of help in your post in the regional sections. Have you followed these up yet?

Please stop posting the same problem everyday, you have a thread open, Update that thread to stop cluttering up the forum.

Don't take this as me being angry etc,.. I'm just being straight with you. I would love to see your mini fixed and running again, It's amazing to drive a nice mini!!! Mechanics is daunting at first, but you need to go and buy HAYNES manual/Mini workshop manual and get reading. These manuals describe a lot of the procedures for general 'checking over' of things and has pictures too. Seriously,.. They're invaluable when you start out.

As mentioned earlier, get a colourtune, reset the carb (as you have already done this and know how it's safe to assume you can do it again) and then go from there. MINIDAN07 has offered to help you out himself, I would get in touch as this could well be a chance for you to learn some good basics about your mini from someone with plenty of experience >_<

good luck dude.
