had a bit of a jingly noise coming from the front. my mates mini had the same and it seems to be the brake disc cover things rattling,. gave them a tap earlier and sounded just like the noise.

Can i just rip them off or should i replace them?

Thanks

Can be a pain to remove if the screws have rusted (which they inevitably have). Take the wheel off and you'll be able to see where they attach. It's a while since I had to remove any but I think there are 3 fixing points?

fixing points are as follows:
1) steering track rod end
2) top brake caliper bolt
3) bottom brake caliper bolt!

one or more of these will be broke, hence the rattle! (usually it's the track rod end!) :cheese:

or you can remove them, the way mine did!

leave them on, wondering where the hell the rattling noise is coming from, for a good couple of months

Then drive along the motorway, let the rattling get VERY noisy - stop occasionally to try and find it!

Accelerate to 75mph, and then feel "something" fall off the car, smack the underside of your car a couple of times, then watch it in the rear veiw mirrir, as it almost hits the bumper of the car behind you :nugget:

I did that with the rear piece on my exhaust once on one of the minis and also lost half my exhaust on the mutro in rush hour on the M62......I wouldn't recommend that !! lol

I´ve got 7,5 inch disks and most people tell me do add dust disk covers.

I think its for preventing disk pads dust from getting into the wheels (or just less dust) and to block water from the road.

Well, my mini doesn´t go out unless its dry so my guess it´s not worth it ?

Or does this apply to my case and not for bigger brakes?
