Hi guys - Seeing as though the engine is out of my Clubman I thought i'd clean up the engine bay a bit. Going to wire brush it with an angle grinder and then prime and paint it etc. My question really is as to which paint to use in that area.
Consider the temperatures in the engine bay, will I be looking at special temp resistant paint? Could anyone recommend something appropriate?

Thanks in advance!

Or if you want something that will look alright and do the job just as well hammerite, but for the price hammerite is now id just of with engine enamel.

I did mine with hammerite

Only problem is it dosent shine up very well, but it stuck fine after I degreased the engine. Been on nearly a year and its still good used as a daily.

Sorry

Propper Answer below

Normal body work paint will do then mate syimples, "celly" or "acrylic" rattel cans Depending on which wont react with whats already there. Or the best option is 2K but that involves compressors spray gear and well ventilated area.

You could could use some fuel resistant clear lacquer as well if being extra cautouse but most wouldent bother.

I painted mine with normal rattle can paint. Gave it all a good wirebrush and degrease, coat of etch primer, 2 coats of filler primer and a few coats of satin black.

Turned out well and looked nice, but not for long.

A bit of work in the engine bay, servicing, dropping spanners etc, spilling a drop of brake fluid or fuel - All easily done and its took its toll on my engine bay paint.

I think if I were to do it again i'd either spray a coat of petrol resistant lacquer over the top or use a hardy paint like POR15.

Excellent - cheers for the advice guys!

Yeah i'm sort of wondering just how long it will last but I really want to get it done. Might have to look into a really hardy paint then, hmm....

POR15 is really good stuff. Expensive and only available from a couple of places (Moss) but it is good.

Sticks best to cleaned bare metal that has been primed using the POR15 metal ready solution and once its on its tough to get off. it resists chips and knocks really well and I imagine it won't be too badly damaged by the likes of oil and fuel as long as you wipe it off fairly quick.

The only limit would be the colours really as I think it only comes in black or white.

Thats a massive help - cheers Mike. Yeah its pretty important for it to be hardwearing seeing as though the car will be seeing some rally stages at some point (buddha willing  ).

I'll have a look at that paint, thanks

Also if you do decide to use POR15 - Use gloves and wrap yourself up whilst your using it. Get it on your skin and it won't come off until the skin has died and turned to dust - Guess how I found that out

You have been warned...
