88' metro engine replacement with a hiff38.
Depressed pedal and the ferrule came out of the hole in the bulkhead.......... It's the metro cable. Thing is, is there supposed to be a bit on the bulkhead that sticks out that the cable passes through? Because the metro plastic end isn't designed to go through it if is supposed to be there but I saw them on a mini specialist website being sold for minis with metro engines.. So is this part of the old mini cable? The cable wasn't in when I got the car and it's not been put on the road yet so I've never noticed. Sorry if this is a really stupid question. Thanks.

How does the brass ferrule stay against the bulk head then and stop the sleeve just falling back and making the cable slack when not depressed? The metro one I've got at the moment is the one with a plastic ferrule that uses the trunnion at the carb end..Thanks for the reply.

There is a tube welded to the bulkhead that the brass ferrule fits into. You need a Mini HIF cable, surely a Metro one is miles too long as well as having the wrong end fitting? It must be an HIF type cable, the earlier HS type cables shown above will not connect properly to an HIF abutment. It needs the brass ferrule and plug for the Mini pedal at the pedal end and the HIF plastic clip at the other end.

i had to order a metro throttle cable for my mini as nobody realises that mini's were built with carbs in 93. on minispares the cablei needed was listed as 'for those who have metro engines fitted to thier mini' it seems they dont realise either.
the cable i have has a plastic fitting which pushes into the bulkhead, there is no tube for a brass bit to sit in. and on the carb end it also has a plastic fitting that pushes into the carb heat shield then the cable is just clamped to the throttle linkage with the screw type fitting.
if you upload a picture of your carb and check if you have the locating tube on the bulkhead, someone might be able to point you in the right direction. it could be that you need the plastic fitting at one end and a brass fitting at the other. if the engine has been transplanted.
ill see if i have pictures of mine as nobody seems to think they exist on minis

Ha thanks a lot for that. I think I am in need of a brass end against the bulk head and then the metro plastic bit at the carb end as I have the bracket fitted to take it. As I now understand the ends a bit better I've found the one I need.
