hey . having trouble tuning my eaton 45 1293cc ...

i am running a bca needle with 2.5 turns out on mixture .... its runs ok studders abit gets up and going and goes ok .. i have an afr gauge it shows around 11.5 and 13 on boost

at idle is showing around 12-14 . but after you go for a run and try to stop it wont idel . just stalls .. i have checked the fuel pressure is set at 3.5 psi and it still does it

i have no option over here in nz as no one close by has a rolling road ,and or there is no one with good enough knowlage to profile a needle for me . they are all jappa shops that have the rollling roads

my question is can anyone point out to me a better needle to start ?? i can do a bit of profiling ...

after looking on minty lamb .. i have seen the bdk is leaner through the whole range maby this will be better and maby profile it a bit on top end to make it richer on boost ???

no it does not flood . . i have made the mixture richer today made 1.5 turns out and you can come up to a stop sign and it idels now etc. but it does not have as much top end power etc . i bet it will be worse on gas now aswell

What spring are you running?
You need a 12oz spring to help the dashpot from rising to quickly. That will most probably sort out the studder too
Did on mine anyway;)

Try differant spings with the same needle, you will notice it straight away when you drive it good or bad (will need small tweeks on mixture each time).
I tried 3 needles, each time with 4oz, 8oz, 12oz & found the one that worked for me.
Think i ended up with bca neddle 12oz spring
1293, 276 cam, 8.3.1 comp, standard valves with worked head
Hope this helps
Joe

You can try some heavier oil in the dashpot, this can have a marked affect.

It runs pretty sweet. Changing to some larger mains and then its off to the rolling road to see what differance it makes. I'll keep you posted.

I'dbe really interested in the results, as it's always been my plan to end with a webber set up.
