hi everyone :o

so the problem-

gear selection is perfect, it selected every gear perfectly  but when in any of the gears, the gear stick could move forwards and backwards about an inch at your hand having no effect to the gearbox ?

so does this mean the bush that the other part of the rod change selection which attaches to the gear box was shot?

i am currently swapping my engine over to my 1275 and want to cure this problem at the same time, so i have remover the gear selector mechanism too, and to me the bracket which bolts it to the car doesn't look right :/

if anyone could give me some guidance that'd be epic :)

cheers

Nick

It looks all bent on the right hand side to me, the part with the bobbins should be straight!

There should be a gap about 1 cm between the alloy casing and the bracket!

cheers :) so, if i'll bend the bracket straight again(well not straight, but to where it should be) ....

but will this cure my problem?

is there any bushes or anything that wears out inside the rod change mechanism it'self ?

cheers

Nick

Just make the bend on the left a right angle again. Mine is running smoothly on bits of 15mm copper pipe, but I think you need to check all the pins in the selector rod are tight & the steady rod is screwed on solidly too.

just to let you know how i got on, and for future information for anyone else, i bent it so the left side was 90 degrees, but it just wouldn't line up like it was still to wide, so i had a look through all the parts catalogues i have, and in SC's GIANT!!! book, theres a picture of the bracket, and it actually bends to the left on the left side aswell..if that makes any sense :) either way its all sorted now

thanks
