Model:Austin America Engine
Year:Unknown (Has remote change gearbox)
Description of problem: I bought a set of these head studs for my engine (http://www.minisport...o_KENMSA54.html) however they are too big. The engines number indicates its a 1275 however the bolts were too big. Anyone able to direct me to the right engine studs? I will need to order from Minisport as I will be exchanging them.

This is news to me...I had thought 850 thru 1275 studs were of the same size. ( maybe different grades(?) )

Those you have in the link are not head studs, they are main cap studs to replace the original bolts...

and yes, have caused a number of problems with people fitting them...

They are too long and the gearbox case needs to be relieved to make room for them...by which time there's sod all metal left around the idler bearing so you're better off using the original bolts.

*Edit*

In ARP's defence, these replacement studs are sold for the A series engine, this does not mean they are suitable for use on ANY A series.... If you think about it, the A series was also used in the midget in horizontal form, therefore has a tin sump rather than a gearbox under it, and I suspect that they are designed for that particular engine rather than the transverse ( gearbox under )

ARP part number 206-5401.... eg http://www.summitrac...s/ARP-206-5401/ ( makes you sick when you've paid 147USD + carriage )

But anyway....

So that link you posted there might be a suitable solution? I don't think I have the original bolts, a guy who did some work on the mini lost them...... I talked with someone at minisport and they thought it may be that ARP put the wrong bolts in the box. The only bolts that I am missing are the ones in this picture I have squared in red.

If you ordered these...

http://www.minisport...o_KENMSA54.html

The you don't have head studs, they are main cap studs...

These are the Head studs...

http://www.minisport...fo_KENHSA9.html

however, if you're in the states, why buy from a UK company when they are made in the US...

There are 3 Head stud sets available from ARP for the A series engine ( from the ARP catalog )

206-4201 - std 9 stud set
206-4204 - 11 stud head ( well 10 studs and 1 bolt )
206-4206 - 11 stud shaved head
