i am looking into buying a 1275 mini and have a MG metro that has stood for 10 years, i was going to grab the engine and box for possible future rebuilds and the calipers.

are the Heads on the MG Metro better than a standard mini head? if so why, also same with the cams

also is there a way to identify the diffrences on the mini head to something diffrent on the current car :P

The earlier MG metro engines that ran leaded fuel came with a 'big valve' head as standard.
I think they have 35mm inlet valves as opposed to the normal 33mm.
Also the cam is uprated, I've seen it called a 'hot cam'...but I'm not sure of the details.

cheers JoeCoy,

anyone got any details on that cam?

is the large carb worth anything on it?

so best way to check is to measure both cars inlet valves?

If you still have the Metro does it say unleaded anywhere in the engine bay.As above, unleaded used smaller inlets but I believe the head was much better even with the 33 inlets. Just google the cam theres volumes on it.

The 'unleaded' head is no different to any other 1275 head. The MG Metro cam shaft is well worth having.

Agree with above, and try and get an MG metro dizzy to compliment the cam

so i need the cam ;D

did some research and got the information on the engine

MG Metro 1300 leaded fuel pre 1989 1275cc 12H996AA, 12HD24
MG Metro 1300 unleaded post mid-1989 1275cc 12HF01

i fear its only a unleaded as it wasnt that old and has only covered around 50,000 miles, at the least ill port and polish the head and have the cam etc
