:erm: hi there can someone help me i am trying to change my broken speedo cable on my 1980 mini 998 it does not seem possible to disconnect or reconnect the cable at the lower engine bay end i have looked from the top/side/bottom and cant find a way in to release the bottom part so i can see what end fixing to get i have the top screw fixing end out off my centre clock that was simple but this is got me stumped about how to get the bottom out and re changed please could someone help as i would like to get it done by the 29th so i can go to the mini indoor trade show,many thanks mike(nickname womball).ps anyone coming down to cornwall or living in cornwall who would like to meet up talk mini etc would be great

You could train mice to do the dirty work haha or just pay someone to do it for you lol. Welcome to TMF, the only site full of mini addicts lol YOU know who you are!!!! But does your mini speak to you, mine does it tells me to do things, like spend money on it

thanks for your help guys i will empty the rad for the second time this week just had the small joiner pipe go and replaced it will look forward to the morning taking the rad out.at least i am cheared up with bungles twanger. thanks once again mike

the speedo cable unscrews by hand or mole grips at the bottom end, but are a pain to do due to lack of space. I've just taken mine off and removed the radiator, inlet manifold, exhaust, fuel pump, bonnet, and engine steady's first, but still a pain...
(by the way. removed all that as replacing motor, not just for kicks!)
