Here's my problem, i ride bmx so i was wondering about the estate so i dont have to use a bike rack.
But what i want to know is, does the estate or van drive just like the clubman and does the clubman drive just like a normal mini.
I've riden in my friends mini and driven it abit, as it always leaves me with a smile on my face when i get out of the car. Will i still get that with an estate?

Cheers lee

Well the famous "Ringmini" drove a mini van because its longer it was less twitchy on the track.

Yes, the slightly longer wheelbase of the van/pick-up/estate makes the car less prone to the pitching action which Mini's can suffer from.

I'd say an Estate/Van would definitely still give you the fun factor!

If you want a cool estate speak to Mighty_Mini, he's selling his turbo'd estate - its awesome

And I think Bluemini might also be selling his van too, if he hasn't sold it already.

Estates are great fun.

The longer wheel base in my opinion improves handling considerably, but beware, if you weigh the back down the oversteer is phonaminal. :saywhat:

If you buy one with a 1098 cc engine you can forget about top-end performance as they don't like too much reves, but you get lots of low down torque, I've never been down on power with my Estate.

The standard 998 cc Mini Clubmans won't be as quick as a 998 cc Round-nose as even the Clubman saloon is heavier that the origional mini and the aerodynamics aren't great.

If you want a fun practical car, You'll love the Mini Estates.

I can't find anything in my literature about a difference in weight between roundnose and clubby saloon. Longer wheel base does give a more 'stable' drive !

understear surely?

That's what you'd think it should do.

With more weight the backend becomes quite loose, yes the backend!

I found at a trackday I had a couple on tents in the back and once I'd started steering I could then just let the back go and controll the corner on the throltle.

It's qute an experience.

there is mi16ke (think hes called) on this site somewhere i know him from the cornish mini club

he used to drive a minus and carry his BMX around in the back behind his bucket seats so BMX's do fit in mini's as well as estates :smartass:

sweet all sounds good then, do you have fixed seats or folding seats in your mini.
taking out the front wheel is easy as i have no breaks.
cheers man

The estate sounds like the way forward for me, is its easy to blank of the rear windows to turn it in to a van.
The handing with god knows how many bmxs in the back, probably about 7 with all my mate s bike in it, should be something exciting to look forward too
