Water Heated Oil Filter Housing?

It's an mg metro engine & it definately looks like a factory thing, I thought a water heater oil filter housing to bring the oil up to temp quicker but I have never come across anything like it before on anything else??

Its actually an oil cooler, load of crap ,, get rid of it :-

That's what I thought at first but then thought surely it's going to be warm/hot water :errr:

A lot of bike engines have that type of oil cooler fitted, including R1

What temperature would you like your oil at? It'll warm it if it's colder than the water & cool it if it's hotter. They're more efficient than an oil to air cooler as water has 4 times the specific heat capacity & a thousand times the density. The only downside is it doesn't add any extra cooling because the heat still needs to be dumped in to the air by the radiator.

It's actually called a heat exchanger. It warms cold oil and cools hot oil, I'd keep it :-

It wont fit in the Mini, I think the filter fouls the subframe

I don't think it will fit in a mini.

Oils normally about 110DegC, Coolant about 95, so not that different, but I'd get rid of it and stick a normal mini oil filter housing on.
