I have recently become a mini owner, 91' rover mini mayfair, and am new to this forum, however I have acquired an RC40 exhaust system but to fit this do I need to change the inlet manifold to suit the system? may sound stupid but as I said I'm new to the mini scene.

Yes and No

Yes, because there are not to expencive and will suit the gains of an RC40 system (If its a full system and not just back box.

No, you can get a joining pipe that increases the size of the bore to allow a bigger bore exaust to fit a smaller minifold :o

to get the benefit of the RC40 system then you really need to fit a maniflow freeflow manifold (assuming that your car has the 998 engine) and an alloy inlet manifold otherwise you are just defeating the object of fitting the RC40 in the first place

the cooper freeflow manifold gives much better torque than an LCB manifold on a 998 engine, the standard mini exhaust manifold is very restrictive and the best place for it is the skip!.......

A good thing would be to get a Stage One Kit, as these come with almost everything you need to get extra power out of your Mini for next to nothing
Its the first step most people take when upgrading their mini.

minispares have the maniflow free flow manifold in their stage one kit. the kit comes with an rc40 exhaust. But because you already have one, you can buy the parts individually as they tell you exactly whats in the kit.

I will be purchasing one of these myself for my 998 once I have the money as I've heard some good things about them.

If your car is standard, your inlet and exhaust manifolds will be cast as one item, so therefore you can't replace one and not the other. And if you want the RC40 to give you the best from your engine, go for a complete stage 1 kit, as suggested, which would include a decent alloy inlet manifold.

If you didnt want to buy a new inlet manifold its possible to cut the standard one off of the exhaust manifold
