I can remember on numerous occasions people have asked if there were a set of plans / drawings for a spaceframe mini

'How hard can it be? ' I thought.... Well, in a hour and a half whilst waiting for Jayne and the kids yesterday I knocked this up....

Now.... If anyone is really serious, and wants to turn this into reality, and help in perfecting the drawings, and help with research and actually draw up some of the remaining components to get this off the ground, I'm willing to put some serious effort in too
I'll need some guidance and advice from someone that actually knows about these things, and the final idea is to have a set of drawings that can be converted into parts details, and I can get a local company to cut, angle and bend parts to suit :D

hi is it designed with bike engine, front or rear wheel drive or engine in front rear drive,as i guess that some of the supports would need modifying to suit drive train, looks good by the way

Thus far it's based upon some photos I had and a low quality mini outline drawing
The rig I have photos of was using front wheel drive, and the rear arms attach directly to the spaceframe
What I have in mind would utilise front engine, front wheel drive, and Volvo/ ford 5 cylinder engine

What I've drawn so far is maybe 50% of the actual spaceframe, I can get virtual models of the engine and wheels etc, but I'll need some advice in how to set up front arms, steering and suspension mounts

Rear of the frame is pretty simple, interior framing us very straight forward for seat mounts and belt mounts, steering rack hangers and pedal positions

I guess it's really just the front end I'll need help with, and rear suspension mounts

Is that inventor? How did you rig up the surrounding images to draw from?

I've been thinking about designing a spaceframe mini speedster for a while now using possibly a kit car/formula ford suspension setup and rear engined. I've managed to make a deal with the guys at work so i can use the laser scanner after work so am going to start scanning mini bits in soon as a test.

I thought i might possibly start off slightly smaller with maybe a custom front subframe as a starting point before i jump into a whole car.

I'm currently off work for at least another week due to my gallbladder playing up so have plenty of modelling time free.

Forgot to mention that when it comes to actual suspension design i don't have a clue.

Found this the other day though

Food for thought

The roof is incorrect for a spaceframe but other than that. Looks like an hour and half well spent :w00t:

most of the drawing I did was based upon a roll centre cage I already had....and a couple of photos....Im sure its far from correct, but with some guidance I reckon I could nail it pretty easy and produce cutting lists for all the tube

just round the corner from my new unit is a laser cutting firm with a 5 axis laser, and they can do all of the compound cuts on the tube ends, and custom chrome locally have an automated tube bender.... so I dont think its all that hard once its modelled up correctly....I can do the modelling, but Im no engineer...needs someone who really knows their shizzle to tell me where to put the elements

heres the photos I used....
