i just sold my MG ZR and am looking to get a mk2 golf as my daily run about, im off to see one friday. looks raelly nice in all the photos and only got 42,000 on the clock. just wondering if anybody has any advice on what to look for in terms of rot spots or things they usualy fail on. thought id try you chaps instead of joining a whole forum before i even buy one.

My brother had a Mk2 Golf with over 200,000 on the clock and faded red paint, yet there was very little rust on it.

Look in all the usual places but I wouldn't worry too much about rust on a VW.

i had a mk2 golf gti 16v and yes their heavy but i still had fun driving if i did not have the mini then the golf would be my next choice.... but only a gti,G60 or the rallye.

with the rust not really much rust on them generally but not to say that there impossible to get any what so ever so just check the usual places really..

golfgti forum was the forum i used at the time just check their buying guides.

your enjoy. but not as much as the mini

Shut the door and listen to the slam, or rattle of rust collected in the door.

Had 4 Mk2's myself, well solid and plastered with paint, sealant etc, so hardly rot, but can do due to previous damage. Incredibly low miles, hard to believe really.
