This gets asked here quite a lot and with some wildly differing opinions, so it might be worth doing a search to get a balanced view. It's going to depend on what paint you are using (celly, or 2 pack etc.), Who is doing the work (a professional will waste less paint than an amateur) and what sort of result/ finish you want (more paint tends to mean better coverage and a deeper colour).

As a guide, I'm an amateur who sprayed my car at home in my garage and I used 5 litres of top coat celly mixed 50:50 with 5 litres of thinners to spray just the outside of mine. I also used a further litre of celly mixed 50:50 with 1 litre of thinners for the roof as that was done in a contrasting colour. The result is reasonable, but some people would have used more and others used much less. You will also need to factor in the amount of primer you will need too, as well as top coat though.

If u use 2k and do a liberal dust coat and 2 wet coats leaving 7mins between wet coats depending on temp, 20 oc is ideal then 2 ltrs of colour and 1ltr of activator to create 3ltr mixed will be plenty. If u need more help or advice pm me or bell me 07815495075 cheers ctazypainter

I would reckon on 3 litres of topcoat if using 2-pack, i did the inside, underneath & complete outer & had paint to spare. you shouldnt be using 2k paint at home, its naughty. the so called cellulose you get these days is a shadow of what i grew up with in the 70's, but you will get a reasonable finish if you apply a wet coat then let it dry, flat it with 800 grit or finer then wet coat it again. wet flat it with 1500 or 2000 paper & a bit of soap to stop it clogging then polish it with cutting compound. above all take your time & the preparation is everything
