Question is in the title really.. I understand the solid mount will stiffen up the subframes, but the benefits? and the downsides?

rubber mounts are squashy, meaning they will distort but not transfer vibrations
solid mounts are hard meaning they will not distort but will transfer some vibrations
polly bushes are somewhere in the middle

Solid mounting obviously takes away any movement and sharpens the handling, but transmits more noise/vibration and can actually damage the floor where the mounting is by increasing stress at that point. Poly bushes can look good in their different colours and sharpen things up nicely, if that's what you're after.

I did read a few things about solid mounts tearing the floor.. don't fancy that!
I'll go with poly bushes then, cheers.

I fitted solid mounts to my old mini, and now every mini I own will have them fitted. I didn't notice any noise increase, i think their a great upgrade. My floor never split or tore, and I gave that car a fair amount of abuse on the 'lanes, and got it airborne a few times.

I fitted solid on the towers and at the rear mounts - but put poly on the front mounts to leave a little bit of 'give'.
