I collected my first ever mini yesterday! Collected it in Devon and drove it up to Yorkshire! It is a 1993 Mayfair in creme with an auto box.
It has only done 27,000 so i was a bit wary of the drive up but it was fine!
I have never even been in a mini before and i couldnt believe how good it was. Real high quality inside, much roomier than much larger modern cars, great ride and perfect engine! I had been aprehensive about the auto box too, but that was great!
Gave it a big clean and polish this morning and it's come up great.
It was my grandma's car and I had planned to sell it but I think im going to keep it for a while now!
Any idea how much it might be worth? There is no rust on it and great service history.
I want to restore it pretty much to standard as there are the odd bumps on it etc. I had a quick look at bumpers on mini spares - most of the stuff seemed to be stainless steel. Is the original chrome? is it not as good to replace with stainless?
List of work i want to do is: treat and paint any tiny bits of rust, replace bumpeds and grill for perfect ones, 13'' x 6 (ish) minilites and nice tyres, posibly chrome winf mirrors and maybe a union jack on the roof.
So can somebody please give me any advice which is vital for noobs? What oil do they use? What pcd are the wheels? what changes should i make / not make? Is there any simple engine modifications that are encouraged? I'd be happy to leave it as it is unless there are things strongly recommended.
Cant believe how good the handling and driving experience is in these little cars!
