Hi all

I've just bought a can of seam sealer and am now unsure whether it's the right type, so before I open it I'd like to check.

It's 'HB Body Pro Auto Seal Special', and it's brushable and has a picture of a Renault 5 on it.

First of all, is this brand any good, and secondly, is "brushable" the right type to use? It just makes it sound a bit thin... I planned to use it for things like front wings to front panel seams, rear panel to rear quarter panel etc. I had envisaged something really thick that you apply with a finger!

Can anyone recommend anything?

Cheers

Mike

If you're after something for the front seams i'd use tiger seal with a silicone gun. I've used the type you're on about before but only on the inside of the car just to prevent water seeping in.

Is welding the seams up an option? Thats what i've done on the front of mine.

for parts of the car that you are going to see i recommend using seam sealer in a gun, tiger seal is a good brand but when buying others check that they can be painted over.
welding the seam is a option or better still if you have oxy/acety is brazing, then you can grind a seam into it and finish off with body filler, that process is one i have used many times on wing to front panel on minis and works very well/

I'm not a great welder, so I suspect welding up the seams would leave it looking messy. I also would feel very slightly guilty in that if someone wanted to replace a panel sometime in the future they'd have a pig of a job grinding all the weld away! I also don't know how to braze - I was going to go for doing plug welds in place of spot welds, and then put sealer along the seam.

I guess sealer in the gun is best for the kind of seams you get on the front and back wings, while brushable is best for flat stuff like the floor or roof?
