I'm just in the process of renewing all my suspension New cones and shocks. The old shocks I'm taking off are Spax Adjustables and I'm just wondering if they are completely knackered. There's no bounce in them what so ever !!. You can set them to whatever length you like and they stay there. There is some resistance when you compress or extend them but once you let go they stay at that length. The new KYB gas shocks I have bought always return to their full length after compression. Do the Spax work differently or are they knackered

The Spax sound fine - that's how they should be. Slacken the adjustment right off - and pull/push them open/close over the full range of movement. Is there any free-play at the end of the stroke ? Also check for any oil leakage - and if the shaft is scored.

Thanks for the prompt replies guys. I'll check for free play and shaft condition when I've got them off. I'll also check the operation of the adjuster as I'm sure it's set to soft yet they feel hard to me
I'm fitting KYB Gas-A-Just so I'll be interested to see how the two compare. Interesting to note that the Spax operate differently to the KYB's

Some models are 'gas filled' which is supposed to suppress frothing of the working fluid (oil!) when stressed......
