I've wondered this for a while but i really must know, why is there a little barrel with a wire coming out of it attached to the ignition coil bracket? the wire is connected to one of the coil terminals (not sure which one after removing coil for cleaning) and there is "AMPOHM 1uf 150v" written on it, which looks like a capacitor code?
Any clues?
And should it connect to + or -, and what effect will doing it wrong have?
Thanks folks.

mine looks very, very different to that...
and mine earths itself and only has one wire.
Also i have electronic ignition so it's unballasted...
IT can be seen here, on the top bit of the bracket.

It's a suppressor. It helps to reduce interference between the ignitions circuits and your radio (or other ICE). Usually attached to the +ve side of the coil - connecting it wrong will probably just render it non-functioning. Disconnect the wire it and see if you have any interference, if not you don't need it - if you do have interference reconnect it.

Ditto what he said. Took mine off, didn't make any difference.
