hello,

basically right now i am wire brushing/grinding the floor of my mini ready for a coat of red oxide. i am wondering how long it will take for the red oxide primer too dry before i can weld in an area near where it has been painted without a chance of it setting on fire and lighting the whole of my mini's floor up :o

thanks for any help

weld first then red oxide?

red oxide dries really quickly, under an hour easily

hi, thanks for the reply

i'm afraid i can't weld first, it's going to be at least another 2 weeks till i get a MIG welder probably.

right now i'm just trying to shorten my list of things to do before then, and red oxiding is one of them, i just don't want the floor of my mini to burst into flames when i start the welding, haha

thanks

when i was welding the door frame, i left about an inch gap between where the area to be welded was and the red oxide, never caught fire and when everything had cooled it was just a quick wire brush to get rid of any splatter and the paint was fine and i just need to put another layer on the welded bit and il probably overlap it anyway, hope this helps :)

and i was using the brush on red oxide from a local paint supplier and it took about an hour to fully dry but it wasnt the warmest that morning though

erm... even if the paints dry... its gunna mess it up when u weld near it.. but most red oxides dry really quick in my expirience if u havnt cleaned the paint off far enough away from where u are welding you are going to get a bit of flame anyway which isnt always good for the old lungs :/
