Hi guys,

I have just phoned Footman James to get a quote, Thinking it would be under £1000 (I've seen people getting quotes of £850 at my age (18)

I was quoted £1850! and have to be a named driver on another car! Does anyone know why? O_O

My car is a 1996 Rover Equinox, 1275cc, No mods.

Can anyone help?

Cheers, James

when i tried to get a quote from them, they told me the same, i had to be a named driver on another quote.

they dont like youngsters driving minis as an everyday car.

I did tell them i wanted it to drive to work, so it maybe because of that. :mmkay:

I dont know how 17,18,19 year olds are quoted under £1000. Must be lucky

Thanks for your view on it

- James

Lewis, what mini have you got? i think it may be because it's a 1275cc. Did you have to be a named driver on another car? and are you using it for work or just fun?

sorry for all the questions :P

Cheers, James

I got my insurance last week from them for my mini mayfair 998 with alloys and bucket seats and my I.C.E system covered for £1200 fully comp..... I'm 17 and just passed my test so might be because you have a 1275!

Hi, it could be because of the age of the car when I phoned up FJ they said the car had to be atleast 20 years old to be on a classic policy, so they could be charging you for a modern policy.

Im sure ive read of people with 15 year old car's with a classic policy so try phoning up again or try another classic car insurer

Try getting a quote from peter james first and ask to speak to martin at footman james and see if he can beat the price you got..... My quote was originally £2500 untill I said peter james quoted me £1400.

Hope this helps

Cheers guys! It's just mind boggling how they can go from quoting under £1000 to nearly £2000 for another person with the exact same circumstances.

Aha anyway I've still got a few weeks before i need the insurance i shall keep looking!

;D

My cuson has the exact same car as you and got quoted 750 a while ago by footman and james and happily pay'd it.
I got a quote in january for when i pass my test (i would be 20 when i passed) For a 1998 mini equinox. and was quoted 550!
I thought it was excellent, rang them up yesterday too tell them i'd passed and wanted to get insured

And since january and now there policys have changed, the mini must be 20 years old not 15 or have another car.
It is a bloody joke.

It's ridiculous! I was seeing people getting it under £1000 and i got really excited as my lowest was £2400 at that point, and then they say £1800 + named driver on another car which is just gonna be as much maybe more.

It really confuses me! I'm going to try Peter James, i hear there better :)

Good luck on getting your insurance and well done on passing you test!
