Hi everyone,

My head gasket went yesterday, so I stripped the top half of the engine down and removed the head. I cleaned everything up ok and placed the head back on over a new gasket, but when I went to drop the push rods back in, two of them are much too high, and I don't just mean high enogh to open a valve, they are really high. It feels like there is something loose in the bottom that I can kind of slide along to the next pushrod hole, so I can place this one ok, but not the next, and vice versa.

The 'object' under the holes, what could it be? I really need to get my car working again today, so any advice is very much appreciated.

I take it this is a 998? If so the cam followers have come out of their guides. Remove the tappet chest covers on the back of the block and pop them back in

I second the above. When I did mine, I didn't notice anything was wrong until i started the engine and bent 3 of the rods! Popped the tappet covers off and straightened it all out. I found it helped to put the pushrods back in with the covers still off. That way if you knock them off again its easy to sort out.
