I have a new TE05 adapter for my temperature sender, however the hole it fits into (cylinder head) seems too deep. The sendor (or adapter in this case) should seal against the tapered seat (yes?)... which in this case starts at 15mm down the hole. However the TE05 adapter is approx 13mm long hence will never mate/seal with that tapered seat. So, how should I seal it - use a ring gasket or crush washer between the cylinder head and adapter, PTPF tape or sealant around the thread, or what other method?
Note: I'm sure the adapter is the correct length as it has 5 threads along its length... as do pictures of other models of the adapter.

Cheers,
Colin.

The adapter's purpose is to allow longer/deeper capillary tube expansion bulbs to fit the A-series head. Yes, the head has a tapered seat and that is what the electrical sending unit bottoms out on and seals. With the capillary tube gauge you do not need the adapter to bottom out on the tapered seat in the head. Wrap the adapter threads with Teflon (PTFE) tape as you suggested and tighten it in the head. The adapter should have an internal tapered seat and the expansion bulb should seat/seal against that when fitted.

OK, time to find my PTFE tape.
I still think it would be a better design if the adapter had the internal tapered seat AND was long enough to seal against the head's tapered seat.

I agree with you. However, since the adapter doesn't have the taper, sealing tape or a sealing washer remain your best options.
